WP3.1 TOP CLeveR – Zoom conference

A few days ago 13.2.2024 TOP Clever held their Kick Off meeting WP3.1.
The meeting had 10 paticipants from 6 different countries:

  • Slovenia
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Spain
  • Hungary
  • Croatia

Zoom conference with our partners lasted for over 6 hours and it was organized with help from our GBC IT support staff.

The project TOP CLeveR aims to empower construction professionals and workers with the skills needed to face the challenges of implementing a whole life carbon and circular approach along a building life cycle.

This goal will be realised by conceiving, testing, and implementing innovative Vocational Education and Training (VET) programmes and activities for “white-collars” (e.g. architects, engineers, building managers, product manufacturers) and “blue-collars” (i.e. on-site workers and craftspeople).

Targeting the activities on the audience in terms of contents, methods and language for programme provision, one training course will be developed for white collars in English and then translated in national languages, while 6 different national training activities will be carried out by GBCs for blue-collars.

TOP CLeveR – Presentation

See a part of the agenda bellow

Discussion of needed skills for white and blue collar, upskillings, reskillings

  • Define skills for white collar
  • Define skills for blue collar

Possible guiding questions:

  • Classification based on building phases: Design, construction, in use, maintenance
  • Classification-based professionals’ roles and background
  • Definition of TOP CleveR learning objectives and format white collar
  • Definition of TOP CleveR learning objectives and format blue collar

Topics of the programme can include

Whole life carbon: what is Whole Life Carbon (WLC), what are the main methodologies to calculate WLC in Europe, benchmarks and targets from advanced European countries, how does it influence building project and the whole construction value chain, examples from practice, presentations of suitable technologies, systems and products

Circular construction: what is the circular approach to building projects and construction processes, what are the main theories and strategies in Europe (e.g. building as material bank, urban mining..), how does it affect the work and collaboration among the construction value chain’s stakeholders, how does it affect construction product design, what are the best practices available in Europe, examples from practice, presentations of suitable systems

Resource efficiency: what is the concept of resource efficiency, what resources are included (e.g. energy, water, raw materials, waste…), how to calculate resource efficiency at design stage, how to verify resource efficiency during construction and operational phase, how does it affects the design phase, construction site management, construction process, building management, building adaptation, reuse and dismantling

Level(s): this part of the programme will not overlap with Level(s) E-learning tools of the EU Academy platform but will complement it with specific content on the application of selected indicators, also leveraging the results of former European projects (e.g. LIFELevel(s)), providing examples of Level(s) application to case studies and including insights on how the use of the framework involves the construction value chain’ stakeholders practice (building design, disclosure of product data, collection of performance data..).

Zero energy building: what are the main definitions of ZEB across EU countries, what is the difference between ZEB and nZEB, what does it imply in terms of emissions and energy demand, what are the main design strategies and building technologies to be used to achieve a ZEB, examples from practice, presentations of suitable systems All GBCs take part in the preparation of the material starting from existing courses and experiences and shaping new parts according to the skills’ demand identified in WP2 and agreed during the workshop in T3.1.

Other activities of the workshop will include

  • Presentation of the results of WP2 work for WCRLZ.
  • Definition of the skills needed by white-collars and blue-collars on these topics
  • Addressing women and young talents: challenges and opportunities
  • Defining the learning objectives for the identified groups of learners
  • Discussion on the educational and training content for white-collars to inform GBCs activities in task 3.2
  • Discussion on the training content for blue-collars to inform GBCs activities in task 3.3 T.3.2
